A public petition has been launched calling for justice following the brutal mob lynching of a Hindu man in Bangladesh, an incident that has sparked international concern over the safety of religious minorities in the country.
On 18 December 2025, 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das was forcibly dragged from his workplace in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, after a false allegation of “blasphemy.” According to eyewitness accounts and widely circulated video footage, he was severely beaten by a mob, hanged from a tree, and his body was later set on fire. The attack reportedly took place in public and in the presence of police, while bystanders recorded and shared the violence on social media.

Dipu Chandra Das was the sole breadwinner of his family and leaves behind a three-year-old daughter. Family members and human rights advocates state that the allegations against him were entirely fabricated and that he was innocent.
The killing was not an isolated incident. On 24 December 2025, another man, Amrit Mondol (29), was beaten to death by a mob in Rajbari, raising alarm over a growing pattern of mob violence in Bangladesh. Rights groups warn that religious minorities, particularly Hindus, are increasingly living in fear amid what they describe as a collapse of law and accountability.
The petition urges the international community, including the Government of the United States, to condemn the violence, press Bangladeshi authorities to prosecute those responsible, and take concrete steps to prevent further mob lynchings. It also calls for legal and financial support for families devastated by such attacks.
“Public murder based on rumors represents a complete breakdown of the rule of law,” the petition states. “Without justice, such violence becomes normalized, placing countless lives at risk.”
The petition, titled “Justice for Dipu Chandra Das: Stop Mob Lynching and Protect Religious Minorities in Bangladesh,” is available for public signing online.
